Mass Selects Youth League Expands to 15 Programs Beginning 12/13 Season
Looking to take regional youth hockey development to the next level, the Massachusetts Selects Youth Hockey League (MSYHL), in an unprecedented move, has added six programs from the International Junior Youth Hockey League (IJYHL) to form a 15-member league that will begin play during the 2012-13 season. The expanded (MSYHL) brings together established Tier 1 programs stretching from Rhode Island to Southern New Hampshire and out to Central Massachusetts.
The goal is to put the top programs and top youth players from the region in a single league which will emphasize skills and character development. The combination of so many teams with an abundance of heritage and talent have come together to form what can only be called the new leading AAA youth hockey league in New England.
“This area of the country is a hockey hotbed and our goal is to create a youth development system that is the envy of the rest of the nation,” said IJYHL Commisioner Mike Bonish. “We believe this will be a vital step in fostering the next golden generation of players to come out of southern New England.”
The addition of the IJ programs to the MSYHL is the culmination of discussions that started prior to the start of the current season
“Everyone involved started on the same page in terms of wanting to make a league that delivers the best possible experience for the players and families involved,” said MSYHL President Tim Murray. “The coaching, the facilities, the level of competition, everything will be top shelf. We’re going to be setting a new standard for what constitutes elite hockey. We are excited to embark on this next chapter in the growth of our league.”
The MSYHL will now be home to the following programs: 495 Stars, Boston Jr. Blackhawks, Boston Stars, Central MA Outlaws, Conquistadors, Dover Stars, New England Bulldogs, New England Predators, New England Stars, New Hampshire Flames, North Suburban Wings, North Shore Raiders, North Shore Shamrocks, Rhode Island Hitmen, and Rhode Island Stars.
